FOREVER:  Size: 24″x24″, Oil Painting on MDF Panel

This is the WIP of an oil painting that I'm working on currently. It's a portrait of my parents. Hopefully, I will be able to gift it to them soon.

  1. I love all these. I love pictures with text-it’s my favorite art form. I wish I could draw so I could illustrate some of my aphorisms. These are really wonderful. Thanks for giving me these gifts today.

Thanks for the comment you left on my blog. Come and visit again sometime.

  2. I like your paintings! I’m just starting to learn how to paint in oil, and I wanted to do a portrait of my sister — I’m struggling with mixing Indian flesh tones, and my teacher (who is white) says its the same tones as white skin to start with…well, he painted one part of my picture, and my poor sister looks like a white girl (pinkish)! Can you share the base colors you use for Indian flesh tones? There are very few resources online.
    Thank you!

  3. Hi Sangita,
    Thanks for your appreciation.

The first thing you should realize while painting flesh tone is that the intensity of flesh-color is relative with the background/surrounding colors. Flesh color would look different when portrayed indoors in comparison to when portrayed in sunlight.

Having said that, I use a mix of following colors: Naples yellow, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, white and crimson red. I don’t use a fixed proportion for mixing colors, as I alter according to the range I want. I keep painting in layers till I achieve a desired tone.

Hope this helps. All the best.

  4. Hi Mita,

That was a terrific work. I like your paintings pretty much. I always love paintings and me too used to be a novice painter when i was in my student days. I have also sketched my grand pa which is a pencil sketch.

I liked your parents portrait and the ‘colors with in me’. Keep the good work going….

    • Hi Kiran,
